The Biz: Skills for Outside Academia

The GSS provides and supports many opportunities for student engagement

with academic skills vis-a-vis conference funding, grants, and project implementation. While

the SFU Office of Graduate Studies offers professional skills development, the grad  student society has also taken on the task of developing a workshop series, in order to help our members

prepare for work beyond the academic setting.

In order to create a program that would meet the needs of our graduate students, the PDC (Katelyn McDougall) made a decision to consult the SFU GSS members about the content, logistics, and structure of this new program through a short, online survey. The survey was launched on April 30 of 2014, and the results were collected on May 13 of 2014. The program, as it exists now, reflects the outcomes of that survey consultation.

The objectives of a The Biz: Skills for Outside Academia is to create a workshop series program that offers our members a series of unique skill building opportunities.
